Hi,
I used FrontPage 2003 to create my website. On this website I have added a
video using Windows Movie Maker (I have Windows XP). Despite the video being
only 14 seconds it takes a long time to download it. I would like to add a
download status bar to my video to let people know how long they can expect
to wait.
Can anyone help please?!

Not really. Download time is dependent upon a number of factors, including
network traffic, client connection speed, etc. Most media players do
buffering (allowing a certain amount of a file to download before playing,
so that the playing is not interrupted), and some have a bar indicating how
much has been buffered. Some media players (and depending upon the media
type) download an entire file prior to playing it. But the amount of time
necessary to download a file is generally guesswork. And you have no control
over what media player software your users are running.

BTW, 14 seconds may not seem like a long time, but a movie is a sequence of
images, each of which is shown for a fraction of a second. A single image
can take awhile to download, much less thousands of them. Sometimes
compression algorithms are used to decrease download time, but again, you're
still talking about thousands of images.

I get it. So to clarify, even though I used Windows Media Maker it is not
always that software that people use when watching the video on the website
and therefore I cant control how people can see how much longer it would take
to download? And there are numerous variables (software type used, network
speed, etc.) which mean I cant add a download status bar.
Thanks for your help anyway and for getting back to me,
Will
