I know others have posted about this but I would like to add my support for
the idea of being able to add the company field to the distribution list. It
just seems silly not to have that option.

The dist list just holds addresses, and it has many other disadvantages.
maybe it's an option for you to use categories instead: Assign them to your
contacts, and by that create groups of contacts.
