How to add asterisk to source data

We want to add an asterisk to several numbers in our data source, but when we
add the asterisk to the source data, it disappears from the chart. How can
we keep it from doing that without putting the asterisk in a textbox and then
moving it around all the time whenever there are changes in the chart?

If you put an asterix into a cell, you convert the cell from a number to a
text value, and it is interpreted as zero. Are the numbers data labels on
points? You could highlight the particular values in a number of ways. You
could put them into a different series with differently colored markers. You
could put them into a different series with differently formatted text. etc.

Create a custom number format like one of these:

General"*"
0.00"*"

Whatever suits you. It should be just the format you're using already
with "*" added on the end. Apply the format you created whenever you
want to add an asterisk to a number, and the result will be a number
that displays properly on your chart, but displays with an asterisk on
your table.

The numbers are data labels on points and the asterisk would highlight
certain numbers and then have a footnote related to the asterisk. Thank you
anyway though. I appreciate your help. feather52
