Tuesday I uninstalled AdAware 6 (181) and replaced it with version 1.01
Wednesday I uninstalled 1.01 and replaced it with 1.02.
Thursday I received mail with the usual attachment containing a worm virus.
Didn't open it but moved it into a desktop folder in order to test the new
AdAware program.
Did Smart system scan. Found nothing.
Did Full system scan. Found nothing
Did Custom scan. Found nothing.
Then scanned with AVG free version and was immediately informed that there
was a worm in my desktop folder.
Something wrong somewhere.
Vic

What's wrong is your almost unbeleivable ignorance of what various
types of scanners detect. AdAware handles adware. Antivirus scanners
handle I-worms.

You are right of course, I am ignorant about a lot of things in computing
and I do tend to ask advice in the news groups when I don't know something.
In this case I found the answer from Michel Doucet who treated me with
respect, unlike yourself.
If nobody wanted to ask questions or seek advice, then we could do away with
newsgroups couldn't we?
Regards,
Ignorant Vic.

That's because I don't use one.

You are so correct....

These types of posters, like Art, feel mighty brave and powerful because
they can be anonymous while posting their diatribe. Don't take it
personally, they treat everyone the same.

Vic,

As said by Michel and some others, AdAware (it's in the name) is made to
scan for ad-wares and spy-wares. Not for virus, trojan or worms.

Therefore, you need both an antivirus AND antispyware (such as SpyBot or
AdAware).

However, to have both does not mean that your can rest easy...
