I am trying to an adaptec aha 2940 UW to drive a nikon
coolscan ls10 scanner using windows
xp pro

1. Will this adaptec scsi card work with xp.

2. How do I install it? When I put the card in the
computer freezes in the bios screen and gives me the
message - Bios Update and then nothing happens. It
freezes.

3. I tried to install it using the XP CD to install third
party scsi software using F6 and again nothing happen -
can't get paST THE BIOS SCREEN

Does the computer boot normally without the card?.. the F6 option given by
the XP cd is so that XP can be loaded to scsi drives.. it is not intended to
be used to install a scsi card.. Is that what you initially did to install
the card, or was it a second attempt after just placing the card in a slot
and waiting for XP to recognize it?

You might want to take a look at this page:

The card works fine with Windows XP. I have it installed on my machine.

Go to the Adaptec website and download the drivers and install them.

The card must be in a Bus Master PCI Slot. Check the docs that came with
your motherboard to see which PCI Slot(s) on your motherboard are Bus Master
slots.

Most newer motherboard have every PCI slot set up as "Bus Masters".
