Does Ad-Aware Free Internet Security scan for viruses? I think it says it
does.

It looks to me like it provides "Basic real-time protection," which to
them means "blocks malicious processes and infected programs that try
to start or run on your system." Sounds pretty vague. I've had problems
with Ad-Aware and I don't like their products any more.

In any case, Ad-Aware is not known for being a virus scanner, and even
its spyware/malware ability isn't well-regarded these days. There are
better free choices - I would recommend Malwarebytes AntiMalware and/or
SuperAntiSpyware for spyware detection, and Avast or Avira for virus
protection.

If you have a licensed copy of Windows, get MSE linked above instead.
Since it's made by Microsoft it integrates unobtrusively into Windows,
and you don't have to pay for any definition updates. Far better than
running Avast or AVG or anything else even if those are free.

+1

Avast has proven far better in my experience than MSE. Add
Malwarebytes free version and you've got a great (and free) set of
malware protection tools.

MS Fanboy:

You need to do a little research. MSE is not ranked highly by reviewers
compared to Avast. And, MSE is a typical MS hog.

Yeah, right. Of course, MSE has already "banged" several of my
friends, and I'm currently working with yet another who relied on it
to protect them. After the first couple of times where a friend got
re-infected after I cleaned their PC up and left them on (updated)
MSE, I've replaced MSE with Avast and they have never been re-infected
since, and NONE of my friends running Avast + Malwarebytes have been
infected. Not saying it can't happen, but it hasn't yet.

Track record so far for systems I help maintain for friends and
family:

Systems running properly installed and updated MSE that became
infected: 5* of 5** that I know of.
Systems running properly installed and updated Avast that became
infected: 0 of 14 installed that I know of.

* two twice
** all now running Avast

You need to learn proper grammar and English.

Like I said, not saying it can't happen, but it hasn't yet to me or
any of my friends or family member's PCs.

What? I don't know if English is a second language for you or what,
but I have a real hard time understanding what you are saying much of
the time, and in this case I don't have a clue.

That's very unfair of you to say that, I was going to say that but you

I run Malwarebytes free version daily, on March 1st it picked up and
removed "backdoor.Bot" successfully.
