Is anyone else having problems with ActiveX9?

I have the current Windows XP (NVidia) drivers version
4.5.2.3.
My games, i.e. "Neverwinter Nights' stopped working
since I installed DirectX9, and also the DirectX9
DirectDraw and 3D tests fail (actually lock up). Also my
computer freezes. DirectX9 can't be uninstalled. A
system restore did not work for me.
If I uninstall the new drivers (in safe mode), I can use
programs except games. For example, I have a new PC Gamer
disc, that will not work, even though the game tests show
I have all the system requirements.

Everything was working fine until the last updates from
Microsoft which included ActiveX9, so I am wondering if
anyone has any suggestions? Thanks
