Am running XP, IE8, trying to use microsoft update site. When checking if
updaets needed, it goes to Install activex control required. No information
bar appears and no matter what configuring I do in the internet option I
can't get the bar to appear or the IE8 to realise activex is already there.
Help

Open internet options,settings,view objects,R.click on each (one at a time),
select "update",close when thru.

Sorry Andrew, did all that you said , still no joy, just get the install
activex , but no information bar with which to install it.
Any more help gratefully received
