Your current settings prohibit running ActiveX Controls on
this page.

I have read many posts about going to your security
settings and changing them a million different ways but
nothing like that is working. I can't get to sites even
adding them into the trusted sites, so I can't get to
windows update site at all. I can't reinstall IE 6.0
because it says it doesn't pass the signature and the
software can't be installed.

Does anyone have any ideas short of reloading the os??

Verify your ActiveX settings:

Internet Explorer>Tools>Internet Options>Security Tab>"Internet">Custom
Level>Under "ActiveX controls and Plugins" Verify the following:

Download signed ActiveX controls = Prompt
Download unsigned ActiveX controls = Disabled
Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe = Disabled
Run ActiveX controls and Plugins = Enabled
Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting = Enabled

Also:
Under "Scripting" Verify the following:
Active Scripting = Enabled

try Windows Update again?

Try temporarily disabling your firewall to see if HTTPS then works
correctly. You may have other software installed that is blocking
ActiveX content. Could be some option in anti-spyware software you
installed and enabled. Could be a BHO (browser helper object) that you
installed to provide additional protection; use BHO Demon to see them,
or use Spybot's tools to list them. Could be you used SpywareBlaster to
install kill switches in the registry so certain ActiveX controls will
not run, and you've hit one of those malware AX controls. You might
have installed lots of other stuff that will affect your web experience
and over which IE has no control.

Frank,

Visit http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/. Are you able to install the
ActiveX control from Panda? Or in which part you're getting the error
message?

Also, make sure that "Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins" is not set to
"Administrator approved" or "Disabled" (in case you've not configured that)
