I need activex to view assignments from school online but I don't have that
option in the bar at the top. The only options available relate to pop-ups.

On my old hard drive, the option for active x was usually there. I don't
remember downloading it or even paying for it.

I have a new hard drive now and active x isn't available. I thought about
downloading it but I don't trust the sites.

Why isn't active x available? Is it something you download? If so, which
site do I download it from?

Are you using Internet Explorer ? - If so what version is currently
installed.
Prompting for installation of ActiveX components is based on Security
settings. ( Zone Settings...)

When you mention new hard drive, was XP re-installed ? ( Repair install ).
If so then all patches and IE-7 may not have been applied.

I'm not sure which version I am using and don't know where to check for that.

For security settings, it's on Medium.

I would say XP was reinstalled because when the computer is starting, it
says Windows XP on a black screen with a loading bar at the bottom.

Should I tell the reapir shop that ActiveX is not available?

ActiveX controls are downloaded from Web sites you visit, hopefully ones
you trust!

To see which version of IE you are running:

Help | About Internet Explorer

If you are running IE7, try this:

Tools | Manage Add-ons | Enable or Disable Add-ons...

The default list shown is "Add-ons currently loaded in Internet
Explorer." In mine, there is one ActiveX Control item: Shockwave Flash
Object (Flash9f.ocx) from Adobe Systems Incorporated. Do you have any?

If there are no passwords involved, why not post a link to the Web site
you need to view your assignments on? That way we can try to view them
and see what the issue is.
