Active X and Scripting

I had to formatt my hard drive because of a registry
error, and when I reinstalled XP and got on the internet
I had no firewall for about an hour. Well I cant run
Internet Security and I have tried uninstalling and
reinstalling it about 10 times. I cant run a virus check
because I get an error message saying that I have active
x and scripting controls that will not allow the java
script, but once again I continue to check Internet
Options and everything is enabled.
