Hi

Now, Our Windows 2003 Server computer names is
vessel_data, When i try to configure Active Directory
then it shows message the following message,
---------------------------------------------------------
"The name of this computer, vessel_data, does not conform
to Internet Domain Name Service specifications because it
contains extended characters and/or underscores."

If you choose to keep this computer name, you must use a
Microsoft DNS server in order for other computer to
locate this computer.

To keep this name and continue with the Wizard, click
Continue.

To Cancel the Wizard and rename this computer, Click
Rename."
----------------------------------------------------------
My question is,

1) If i click continue with same computer name, it will
create any connectivity problem for other comput to
locate this Server.?

2) If i chagne the computer name as Vessel, it will
create any connectivity problem for Oracle Database
(Since I'm using Oracle Database on that Server)?

Please advice to me, I need to install DC with AD on this
Windows 2003 Server..thx.\

Thanks and Regards,
S RAMESH

The problem is not in the characters in the name
(which You should change to for example "-", but You sould avoid single
label domain name.

Use some name with DNS suffix like for example vessel-data.local. Single
label domains causes a lot of problems in AD environment

I don't know much about Oracle so I can't tell You - but to change
domain name You don't have to change computer name.
The problem in fact may be in the permissions of the local accounts on
which Oracle server is running on this server after promoting it to DC

If i install again my original Server, can i give my

that's OK

If You choose vessel as Your NetBIOS domain name it will be look like
this, the default NetBIOS domain name proposed by the wizard will be
"vesseldata" and if you don't change it, this name will be visible in
logon box

I always if it is possible use FQDN so I preffer to use vesseldata.local
when specifing domain name for client to join

of course You can - but what You mean in "If i install again my
original" - are You now working on some disaster issue or are You
reinstalling DC for your current domain

I always try to avoid underscores in machine names. I can't recall
specifics, but we ran into a situation a year ago where a particular program
couldn't see a client machine until I got rid of the underscores. I stick
with letters and numbers and have not seen any problems.

Yes You can - but If You use it and 3itech.com is not Your domain Your
users will have a problem with resolving this domain hosts. If it is
Your domian You will have to maintein "split brain" DNS structur in
which You will have one DNS server for LAN and secend for Internet -
both servin 3itech.com domain names but for different users (LAN and
Internet) and different data (You don't want serve Your doman data to
the Internet users)

Hi, Tomasz Onyszko,

Please Help me, I have problem in my DC, After converted
windows 2003 Server as Windows 2003 Server DC.

My Computer Name: vessel_data
Full Computer Domain Name: vessel_data.vesseldata.local
Domain Name: vesseldata.local

When I join the Domain from Windows 2000 Server and
Windows XP then I have received the following Error:

"The following error occurred validating the
name "vesseldata.local" This condition may be cuased by a
DNS lookup problem. For information about troubleshooting
common DNS lookup problems, please see the following
Mircrosoft Web Site:

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=5171

The specified domain either does not exist or could not be
contacted."

Can you help to resolve this problem,

Thanks and Regards,
S RAMESH
