Hi, sorry this is such a long problem but you'll see why after I explain it
all. (Don't fall asleep...)
I have a problem with Active Desktop on Windows 2000 machines...
Background :
Myself and two others have developed a games network called KidsNET for kids
in a Sick Childrens Hospital. It has chat facilities, games, web pages etc
to keep them entertained whilst in hospital. It's been going now for around
two years, everything is locked down using policies etc so the kids can't
hack into anything. (We've tried!)
The server is running Windows 2000 Server (All service packs) with Active
Directory running in Native Mode.
The PC's (approximately 15) all run Windows 2000 Pro (All service packs).
There are three usernames the kids can use to get into the machines, Tots,
PJ's and Teens. Each age group gets different content.
Problem:
We used to have a policy that loaded, on login an executable Flash program
that linked into all of the games. This caused problems because the kids
would open up the games, switch back to the Flash program and keep that game
open. After a while they would have 20 games open and the machines would
slow down due to resource problems.
Our Solution:
We made an HTML page that links to all of the games so that would load as
the active desktop. This meant that the kids would have to shut down the
programs to see the desktop.
The Problem:
When you load active desktop, as a default, the 'My Current Home Page'
active desktop is automatically coming on. This causes a box to appear
saying the page can't be found because it is opening your own internet
homepage. (We've tried setting the homepage to our HTML page, but it doesn't
work proerly)
Does anyone have any idea how we can use the registry to switch off the 'My
Current Home Page' tick box?
I know this is a long quiestion, and if anyone needs any more info, please
get in touch!
Thanks for any help!
