Dea All,

I have the Office System Evaluation 2003 Enterprise edition, but the product
activation over the Internet doesn't work because the program can't find an
Internet connection.

However, the Internet connection is up and running. Windows Update works,
Norton Antivirus Update work.

I run Windows XP and use a Linksys BEFRS41 cable modem since about 4 years
without problems.

Any feedback will be appreciated.

Thanks for your quick reply Chris,

This problem not only affects FrontPage but Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc. as
well

The 'Activate by phone' option is NOT quick, NOT easy and NOT friendly,

because it is greyed out and therefore unselectable!

The whole world is on DSL or cable modems and I find it ridiculous that
Microsoft
hands out software with a non-functioning activation procedure.

We're talking about 13 Cds here. I called the "Activation Helpdesk" and they
couldn't provide a solution (so what's the use of an activation Helpdesk that
can't fix activation problems?). They advized me to call the "Technical"
Helpdesk, which in turn also couldn't fix the problem. The only "advice" they
could give me, was to request another Evaluation Set. Yeah sure.

This is the level of help you get when companies outsource their Helpdesk to
call centers.

I think the whole situation is pretty pathetic, especially because the
Windows Update works fine. I can't imagine that I'm the only person in
Holland who has ordered this set and has had this problem, but until now I
haven't come across any real solution on the Internet.

I offer 10 Euros for the first person who comes up with a real solution.

Regards,

Carl.

I appreciate your frustration. that's a heck of a lot of material.
How'd you come about 13 disks?
I don't work for Microsoft in any way but have bought lots of their software
and never had that many in any of the suites.

Since you've recently bought this stuff there must be some kind of factory
support.

I've never heard of the problem before.

Hi Chris,

I didn't buy it. It is an evaluation set you can get for free.
It consists of:
Office Pro Enterprise Edition 2003 (120-day Trial)
Office InfoPath 2003 (120-day Trial)
FrontPage 2003 (120-day Trial)
OneNote 2003 (120-day Trial)
Outlook 2003 with Business Contact Manager (120-day Trial)
Office Visio 2003 (120-day Trial)
Project Standard 2003 (120-day Trial)
SharePoint Portal Server (120-day Trial)
Live Communications Server 2003 (120-day Trial)
SharePoint Services (120-day Trial)
Windows Server 2003 (120-day Trial)
MS Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise Edition (120-day Trial)
Office System Evaluation 2003 (Demos)
Office System Evaluation 2003 (Resources and Information)

The Part no = X1029185

I just put in a request and 3 days later it arrived in the mail.
If you don't activate it, the functionality of the programs will be reduced.

Regards,

Carel.

Do you have a browser window to an active site before you try to open the MSO product and activate it

Hi Stefan,

Thanks for your reply. I saw the TechNet article, but I'm not using a proxy.
I've tested the ports 80 and 443 and they work. When I use the normal
Windows update to get updates for Windows XP I have no problems whatsoever.
Als getting updates for Norton AntiVirus is not a problem.

I have tried opening a connection to Microsoft with a browser before I try
to Activate one of the apps over the Internet, but it doesn't help.

I'm not going to waste any more time getting this **** to activate.
If my phone calls, 2 Helpdesks and a Microsoft community can't fix this
problem I'll use the box as a paper weight and just look at it from time to
time.

Thanks for your input.

Greetings from Amsterdam,

Carl.
