I need to reinstall winxp pro on my HP laptop. I am unable to locate
original OSD, however I have a xp pro disk that came with my Dell desktop.
If I use this disk will I have a problem with reactivating this OS? Nothing
has changed with the system ,its all the same hardware etc.
can anyone help with this? Thanks MV

The Dell software will be looking for a Dell motherboard. It will not
install with an HP motherboard. Since you have an HP laptop, the
simplest thing to do is call HP and have them send you a set of
recovery disks. A client of mine did this and it only cost $25USD so
this is a sensible solution.

It could work IF neither system has a BIOS locked installation. Why not call HP for another disk or they may have some other way to restore the system.
