I have an Actisys IR220L+ which was working ... and now its not. When
trying to reinstall it in Windows I get an error message at the end of the
installation to say "The INF or the device information set or element does
not match the specified install class". I've no idea what that means in
practice - typical Microsoft speak. In fact I am surprised they didn't put
a 'help' facility to explain what "does not match the specified install
class" means ... the answer to which would be something like "to check
whether your device matches the specified install class, click here" or some
other pointless circular argument. Anyway, I emailed Actisys, who also seem
to speak a funny language -

I have a IR-220L+ on Windows 2000 SP4. It was working fine the other day
but has now kicked itself out of the Device Manager window and any attempt
to reinstall it throws up the following "The INF or the device information
set or element does not match the specified install class". Typical
Microsoft gobbledegook!
Any ideas on how to get it working again please? Serial no is XXXXXXXX

Your problem may be cause to the disarray INF link, You can try to remove
the IR220L+ device and reboot your PC. Please follow the User's manual
reinstall again your IR220L+. Because the IR220L+ driver is built-in the
Windows 2000 O.S system, if still shows the same error message, then your
Windows O.S may be lost the INF file, you need to repair your Windows 2000
system of the IrDA part.
SECOND EMAIL TO ACTISYS
Thanks. I've tried the first thing you suggest - removing and rebooting - so
do you have any tips on how to "repair your Windows 2000 system of the IrDA
part"? Is there a file you can email me or that is available for download?
SECOND REPLY FROM ACTISYS
You can insert the Windows 2000 CD to the CD-driver, execute the Setup, then
the setup system will to scan your Windows 2000 system and repair it.
THIRD EMAIL TO ACTISYS
I've tried booting from the CD and repairing Windows from the facility there
to 'repair' and I've also tried to reinstall it by choosing Upgrade - I'm
obviously not going to choose 'New Install' because I'd lose everything
else. I still have the same problem. Can you think of any other suggestion??
