action canceled & red x's

A lot of the web pages i visit get the "action canceled" message where
either pictures or animations would normally be present.I have checked
tools/internet options/advanced,and the show pictures & show animations
boxes are both ticked.

I also seem to get red x's in place of where pictures supposedly appear on
webpages.

Any help in resolving these issues would be appreciated.
