Acronis Teamed Up with Western Digital

I just found out a few minutes ago that we can get a free Acronis True Image
disk imaging software from Western Digital. Here's the link:
http://support.wdc.com/product/downl...ad&wdc_lang=en

I'm wondering if anyone here has used this particular Acronis TI software
with their XP/Vista. I have some questions for those who have tried it:

- Is there any limitations (eg: can only clone WD hard disks but not other
brands)?
- Does it work with external USB or Firewire HDs?
- Can we create a clone image (ie: create an image file) onto an external
HD?

Update:
I'm trying to download the software but keep getting the following:
HTTP Error: 502 (Bad Gateway)

Not sure if the problem is at my end of the connection or theirs. At one
point download starts but it stops prematurely at 528 KB.

It is downloading just fine here. Although I am using Orbit Downloader.
And this isn't unusual that Acronis True Image and a hard drive
manufacture teams up, it happens all of the time.

I haven't ran it yet, but what normally happens is that it checks for at
least one WD drive on the system either when you install or when it
runs. That is my guess anyway.

Thanks Bill.
It's gotta be my connection. I got about 20MB before download quits again.
It's a direct download from WDC.

I'm retrying. It's now at 35MB and still goes. I hope d/l finishes this
time.

Give us an update if you've tested it.

Failed to install on my netbook (EeePC 702) with the following error
message:

~~~~~~~~~~
E0001006F: Failed to read file.
Cannot read from file, a possible reason might be you do not have
permission to perform this operation.
~~~~~~~~~~

Running as administrator. I'll make a backup on this Gateway and then
try it there. As this does have a brand new WD in it. <grin>

You will need to use Firefox to download. Tried to download using IE7 but failed. The
file got corrupted. Download with firefox went smoothly and installed OK on my system
Not sure if I have WD HD on my laptop but it is DELL Inspiron 2600 (very old system by
current standards). Can't give any other feedback due to limitation of my hardware.

I downloaded it under IE6 using Orbit Downloader. Same error message on
my Gateway laptop. Redownloading under Firefox and we will see. At least
I got my backups done. <grin>

Download finally finished. tih_s_e.exe file size is 126,924,016 bytes.

I ran it. I got as far as preparing for installation... then setup quits
with the following message:

"To install the product, at least one Western Digital device should be
installed in your system.
You can purchase the full version of Acronis True Image Home edition by
visiting www.acronis.com"

My desktop HD is Samsung :-p
Your first reply is correct, at least 1 WD HD must present. Looks like the
download is good.

Gotta wait till I come home to test it on my home PC (it does have WD HD).
I'd be happy if it lets me create a clone image file on my external USB HD
(Seagate).

I use IE7 and direct download from wdc. I finally got all of it. Looks like
a good download but I'll never know until I run it. Unfortunately I'll have
to wait till I get home later today.

Btw, I did try firefox earlier. It also stopped at 500KB.

It is 123,950 kb so it must be 126,924,016 bytes (123,950 x 1,024) rounded for
computer storage!
