Well, the sleep button is an acpi device, but the power button isnt...
The way i've got around this before is by hard-disconnecting the button,
then in the power section of the BIOS, make sure its got the option "Power
ON AC" or something similar.
Then whenever the PC is switched on at the plug, the machine will power on.
