I have an IWill DK8N dual operton motherboard, latest BIOS 1.11, and Vista
Beta 2, both 32- and 64-bit versions fail at the installation stage, blue
screening after the loading files screen with an error 0x00000A5 (subcodes
0x17 0x22).

This PC is running XP SP2 quite happily with the ACPI Multiprocessor Kernel,
as I said this is the latest BIOS available, and a fairly recent motherboard
(less than 18 months old).

I couldn't find any clues as to what the subcodes for the STOP error
indicate, which would possibly help me track down the problem.

Any ideas on how I can pin-point the issue more rather than just give up
completely on installing Beta 2?

Let me take a guess ?? hum

Sounds like a ACPI Vers. 1 Problem.. HP, Toshiba, IBM, Intel System...
This Standard was Changed in 2002 but the companies kept it back to sell new
hardware for Vista.

you need ACPI 2.0 or Newer for Vista. maybe someday there will be a update
for the Bios.

Although it seems to be an ACPI problem, I came across a
post that claims he resolved a similar situation with the
correct SATA drivers.

The solution supposedly:

Basically you need to switch the hard drive mode to Raid
mode in the bios, wait for Vista to not find a drive in
setup and then manually load the driver from a flash drive
or floppy or CD.

Well look and see what vers of ACPI you have on that board.

you can do yhis in the handbook for the board or even at www.esupport.com
has a program that will tell you all about your bios.

The Code means your not ACPI Compliant.

look and see what Version of ACPI your mobo has... you can do this sometimes
with the handbook for the board or at www.esupport.com has a programm for
this you'll see its vers. 1.0 and Vista is made for vers. 2 or better

I also have a DK8N running BIOS v111 (14 June 2005). The most recent.
The board is 2 years and 3 months old.
The BIOS has been ACPI 2.0 compliant from the first revision.
But I think Vista requires the BIOS to be ACPI 3.0 compliant. Not sure.

The STOP error I'm getting is :
The BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI compliant. Please contact your
system vendor for an updated BIOS.
Technical information:
*** STOP: 0x000000A5
(0x0000000000000017,0x0000000000000022,0x0000000000000000,0x0000000000000000,0x0000000000000000)

Over here : http://forums.2cpu.com/showthread.php?t=44816&page=71
you can read that the DK8N is discontinued.
(The guy Stormlord is working for an Iwill distributor :
http://www.iwill-benelux.com.)
He mentiones that Iwill is taken over by Flextronics, and that it is very
unlikely that a new BIOS will be released.

At first I had problems with this, but I soon gave up on the motherboard.
A couple of hundred euros is not worth the risk of a heart attack.
