Computer extremely slow to power-up. On the Advanced
System Information-Error log the description is...
Source 1) ACPI AMLI: ACPI BIOS is attempting to write
to an illegal IO port address(Oxcf8) which lies in oxcf8-
oxcff protected address range. This could lead to system
instability...
Source 2) disk The device,\Device\Harddisk1\D,is not
ready for access yet.
Can you help???

I originally had this message along with a read error, so appeared in
pairs. This never caused any real problems on my PC but disappeared when
I updated my Bios.

I would start by checking the cable & power connector to your drive -
unplug, reinsert or swap in another if possible. You may need to test
your disc using diagnostic s/w from its manufacturer's web site.

Take a look at these two sites.

http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q283649
http://www.microsoft.com/hwdev/tech/onnow/BIOSAML.asp

Then goto your motherboard manufacturer's website and get the latest bios
and see if it resolves this problem. If it doesn't, contact your
motherboard manufacturer and ask them to resolve this issue, citing the two
links above.

Most current motherboards, if they haven't had the issue resolved already,
have fixes forthcoming in a future bios upgrade.
