In Outlook, use its help to read up on Read Receipts. Its an option,
either globally or for a particular e-mail that you send.

As to whether you will actually get a read receipt from your *request*
for one, very doubtful. No one is interested in telling spammer they
reached a valid and active e-mail address. Users disable the read
receipt function almost as soon as they discover it exists. I believe
the default during install is to Prompt when a read receipt is
requested. This will start educating even the newbies as they'll
wonder what it is. When they find out, they'll either choose to
answer No to each prompt or they'll finally get irritated enough to
configure Outlook to NEVER send a read receipt and eliminate the
nuisancesome prompts.
