ACF S/N alarmingly degraded due to site war - a noncombatant's view.

I am a less than diligent visitor to this group, and I certainly don't
peruse every thread, yet, unlike those who claim to have searched high
and low without finding the original request for a vote on moving the
PLW site, I was somehow fully aware that a vote on this issue was
taking place. I did not myself vote, however, as I consider this whole
affair to be trivial (although I recognize that this is understandably
not so for those directly, and I stress "directly", involved). As with
too many situations in which some parties feel that they have been
wronged, and other parties join the fray by taking sides, the
"discussion" has deteriorated into squabbling and name calling. While
I consider the PLW list to be a valuable resource, and I appreciate
the efforts of those who maintain the list, and I have voted on
candidate programs in the past (and probably will again), I have no
dog in this fight, since it matters not a whit to me where the site is
located. I am, however, beginning to understand why the Shark swam
away to play in less turbulent waters. Can we please get back to the
FW which is the real purpose of this ng? That would be FreeWare, not
Flame War.

It's pretty easy to avoid the PW threads like I do for the most part.
And relax. This will blow over like every other crisis in this group.

This one seems to have more legs than most, and it keeps showing up
under different subject headers. But you're right, this too shall
pass. I just hope it doesn't rear its ugly head every time there is a
call for nominations or votes for programs.

This crisis though seems different from prior ones. Normally (but not
always) conflict comes between "newcomers" and "regulars". Where the former
are perceived to rock the boat Eg about definitions of freeware, the
pricelessware webring issue, posting behaviour.

Like many others, I haven't really being playing any attention , so I
missed all the stuff about voting, so I could be offbase here, but it seems
to be a rather trival matter too.
