I tried to import from a web site into FrontPage by http
by specifing a web site on my localhost that I had not created yet
(http://localhost/abc). A window flashed by real quick and the wizard didn't
proceed, so I changed it to be http://localhost/.

Now my other frontpage web site under c:\inetpub\wwwroot\xyz doesn't display
properly in the browser.

I think it's been turned into a subsite because of what I did.

How can I undo this mess I've made?

Many thanks for any help!

You don't want to import, you want to open the live/remote site directly in FP and then publish it
to http://localhost/abc

Thanks for your advice.

I tried to open the web site at (http://www.xzy) and do a
WebDev remote site publish to the new local site at
http://localhost/xyz but the publish failed because the
web site doesn't have FP server extensions.
I'm not allowed to ftp from the web site, so isn't my
only choice is to pick File System?

When I type in the Remote Site Web location of
http://www.xyz) and click OK, the same Remote Web Site
Properties window redisplays.

1)So what do I do?

2) When I try to create a new one page website located at
http://localhost/test2, I get the error
Server Error: Cannot create file "index.htm"

Isn't this happening because I have a FP website created
at http://localhost and now every new website I try to
create under localhist/somename is considered a subsite?
What can I do to fix this?

Many thanks,
newbie

Thanks Tom for responding.
1) On another pc, I did a File Open Site and typed in the site name
http://xyz.com
Then a window called Web Site Setup shows and of the options
FP Server Extensions, WebDAV, FTP, File System, HTTP, I think the only
choice I have is to pick HTTP, because the server that the web site runs on
doesn't have FP server extensions and I don't know the ftp password info.

So I picked HTTP and then keyed in the new website name
http://localhost/xyz.

Is there a way that I can do a 'Publish' for this web site to get it into FP?

2) On my laptop which I messed up by creating a FP website at http://localhost
I'm not able to create any new websites located at localhost, for ex,
http://localhost/test without getting server errors. In win exp when I
navigate to c:\inetpub\wwwroot the icon for wwwroot is not a yellow folder.
It's a yellow folder with a blue ball in it and a red line underneath it. Is
there someway using IIS that I can remove the FP website that I created at
http://localhost?

thanks,

Thanks Tom for replying.
1) On another pc, I went into FP and did an Open Site and entered the url
for the web site. Then the Web Site Setup window displays and of the
choices, FP Server Extensions, WebDAV, FTP, File System, and HTTP, I think
the only choice that I have is to use HTTP, since the server hosting the web
site doesn't have FP server extensions and I don't know the FTP logon info.

So can I do the Publish in this case? If so, how?

2) On my laptop, I created a FP web site at http://localhost
Now whenever I try to create a new website at http://localhost/aaa
where aaa is the name of the new website I'm trying to create, I get Server
Error: Cannot create 'index.htm'.
I click OK and click on the folder http://localhost/aaa under Folder List
and right click and click on new folder. I try to rename the new folder and
get Server Error: cannot rename folder 'New_Folder'. I right click on
New_Folder and click delete and get Server Error: Cannot remove New_Folder.
I believe these problems are due to me having created a FP website located
at http://localhost/.
Is there something I can do in IIS to remove the FP website located at
http://localhost?
Or should I try reinstalling IIS on this laptop?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If the live/remote server doesn't have the FP extensions, then you can not use http, you have to use
ftp to upload your web content.

Thanks Tom,
Any suggestions for the following would be greatly appreciated:

On my laptop, I created a FP web site at http://localhost

| Thanks Tom,
| Any suggestions for the following would be greatly appreciated:
|
| On my laptop, I created a FP web site at http://localhost
