I accidently replaced a file of pictures that was on my desktop by dragging a
shortcut to the desktop that had the same name, the warning that came up said
files in the folder with same name would be replaced, but I thought that
files not in their at all would be left alone. Is their any way to recover
the original pictures?

====================================
Replaced (overwritten files) are not recoverable.
If the images in the original folder had different file
names than the ones in the replacement folder....
they should still be available.

Since the folder was on the desktop...it may be
worth a try to do a system restore to a time before
the files were overwritten.
