Please help if you can. when in a japanese site an
upgrade was accidentally downloaded in japanese for
windows media player version 9. I'm Irish and have no
Japanese so you can imagine this is causing a major
problem. If you have any suggestions on how to rectify
the situation in easy-ish steps please let me know, I
would be very greatful. I tried downloading the version
from the English website to replace the Japanese upgrade
but it didn't change the language!!!
If you like you can respond to my personal e-mail address

Your upgrade has probably completely corrupted the entire application with
Japanese characters. You'll need to do a complete reinstall over-top itself.
If you are trying to fix the player, simply reinstall it over the top of
itself. If you are using Windows Media Player 9, then you will typically find
the installer (mpsetup.exe or mpsetupxp.exe) you used in "c:\program
files\windows media player\installer", and can use that to reinstall the
player. Otherwise, go to Microsoft's download site and redownload and
reinstall the player. Do not try
to delete the version you have now for the reinstallation will correct that.

have you tried uninstalling first?

or, using the install log to ensure that all the files and dlls are
removed? or simply throwing out the whole installed directory as
sometimes uninstall leaves some behind.

any of the above should do it for you.

Good Luck
