This file is only 1.6 MB on the Office 2003 CD. Where are the files
that it installs? I can't find msaccess.* or *.cab on the CD.

Here are 3 websites with the 2003 runtime:

http://www.mhnocc.org/amhocn/dst/AccessRT2003.exe
http://www.restaurantplus.com/Download/AccessRT.exe
http://www.gewidor-gmbh.de/Download_...3/ACCESSRT.exe

So, my (simple) Access 2003 MDB should work with any Win 2000/XP
computer that installs the accessrt, corerct?

You need to purchase Visual Studio Tools for Office in order to get the
right to distribute the run-time. Without that, any distribution you might
do will be illegal.

can't you open .MSI files with notepad?

or there are lots of 3rd party installer tools that can modify MSI
files.. right?

I know it refers to some of the cabs
don't know which ones.

MS doesn't give a **** about the Access runtime.. they just don't
understand the value.
MS Should just charge $20/seat for it.. then maybe they'd care.

I still dont understand.. in the 2007 release-- they were talking about
being able to 'open up an access solution and expand on it with real
visual studio'

is that subject dead?

the answer is yes; the package and deployment wizard is about 10 times
more complex than anything you need to deal with.

MS just shouldn't produce crippleware; they're holding back the Access
family

Doug,

There are no VST 2003 on eBay and one on Amazon for $995, wow!!!

Does Visual Studio Pro or Enterprise include the right to distribute
the runtime?

Any suggestions for a reasonable cost solution/alternative?

No. VSTO is the only legal way.

That price on Amazon seems high:
http://www.microsoft.com/products/in...8ca2f#HowToBuy
lists it at $799
