I have a customer with 3 computers on a peer-to-peer
network. The 1st system is running Windows 98se -
named "JOAN". The 2nd is running Windows 2000 Pro -
named "ANGELA". The 3rd is running Windows XP Pro - named
"CAROLEE" - which was upgraded from Windows 98se. They
have been running like this for a while. The Win 2K Pro
system is the main system for printing - it is the only
laser printer - an HP 4050, I believe. The person who us
using the XP system is the bookeeper who needs to print
checks. On two different occasions I have had a
technician go out to the office to correct a reported
problem that this person could not print. Both times he
was able to get her up and running. The first time I
believe that he had to resetup the user IDs on and shut
off the firewall that is in PC-cillin 2002. The 2nd time
he had to change the master browser to the Windows 2K
system. Each time, this seems to work for about 1 month
before failing. When we come back out, the settings are
still the same as when we left, but the networking isn't
working anymore. In fact, the person can't print because
she can't even access the Win 2K system across the
network (all protocols are correct, the IP scheme is
correct, the user ID in use is setup on the Win 2K system
with administrative privilige and with the same password,
and the computers are in the same workgroup). The
problem has come back again. This time I went out. When
I run the "Network Setup Wizard", I get an error in the
dialog box wanting to send the error to Microsoft in the
module "SPOOLSV". Since the computer doesn't have a
permanent Internet connection, I say to not send the
error and the wizard then completes. I still can't
even do "\\ANGELA" to access the Win 2K system. The
CAROLEE system can access JOAN system but ANGELA and
ANGELA can access both JOAN and CAROLEE. What's
happening and how can I fix this.
Thank you,
