I'm running Windows XP in a mixed linux/windows environment, I have Windows
XP, Windows 2k, Windows 98, Linux (debian, solaris, cobalt raqs 2 running
RedHat), and at work I also have a linkstation that is running a Linux
firmware. The only two I’m not having any problems with is Windows 98 and
Linux. I’m able to access shares on any of the platforms no problems. What
I’m running into with Windows XP and Windows 2k that when I try to access my
network shares on other computers, with no domains, they first want to use
their own computer for the “Connect to ‘computername’” dialog. That won’t
work obviously, so I change the username to “Server1\test” and enter my
password. Every time I click ok it just brings the logon screen back up. This
happens from both Windows 2k and Windows XP when connecting to any type of
share, whether a windows or linux samba share. I’ve tried quite a bit of
variations for logging in and still have that problem. I can’t even use net
use and map a network drive since I’m not able to get root access to any of
the computers on my network. I did find for the windows to windows shares for
those O/S I can add on the security tab for other users. That still doesn’t
fix my problem when connecting to Win98 Shares and Linux shares. Any help
would be greatly appreciated.
