Accessing a shared folder over the internet

I have two machines running Windows XP Pro. I'd like to have one of
the machines securely connect to the other over the Internet and map a
shared folder to a drive. How would I go about doing this, and how
could I make the connection secure?

I am mainly a UNIX guy, so I initially thought I could use an SSH
tunnel from one machine's SMB port to the other and then map
//localhost:1234/theshare to a drive (where 1234 is the port that's
tunneled to the other machine). This didn't seem to work.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Bill

When working with windows(r) security is pretty ambiguous. if you don't
already have a folder you can create one and then right click on it and
select sharing and security.

It's a good thing you chose XP pro. It does have better security features
than XP Home

A firewall works well for moderate security but you can use global and local
permissions to set access security.

what type of internet connection do you have? what kind of network do you
have?
