After securing my XP PC, I am unable to access a file share on an XP Pro SP2
PC from another XP Pro SP2 PC, when I try to access the share I receive a
login prompt, I enter the user details and after 3 attempts (in accordance
with GPO setting) I receive an error message and the user account is locked
out on the share host PC. I have created an account with the same credentials
on both PC's. The message recieved is: \\servername is not accessible. You
might not have permissions to use this network resource. Contact the
administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The
referenced account is currently locked out and may not be logged on to.
Simple file sharing is disabled, file & print sharing is enabled, the share
permissions is set to user Read only and the file security settings are set
to user read and read list. In the security event log I can see event id 680,
and the error message is stating the the password is incorrect but I know the
user details are correct? The server service is also running ans the GPO
access this computer from the netowrk has the specified user listed. I
believe it id related to the workstaion.inf security template used in the
hardening process but do not know what it may be?
The bizarre thing is that I can successfully connect to the share using a
Vista PC without any problems?
Any help would be gratefully received.
Many thanks
