Accessing password protected user files

I was re-installing Windows XP Pro on my machine, so I
backed up the "Documents and Settings" folder on my comp
using the backup wizard. Before I re-installed, I used
the restore wizard to restore the files to a different
location (a folder on d so I could check they were
backed up properly. BTW, before backup, my account was
password protected and I chose the "keep files private"
option.

Formatted c: and re-installed XP Pro, but now when I try
to access the files that I had backed up, it tells me
access is denied. I even created a user of the same name
and password in this install, but it won't let me see the
files from my backup.

Anyone know how I can unlock my files?
