My OUTLOOK 2003 program has no problem accessing the OUTLOOK Address Book.
And I had no problem accessing it from WinFax 10.0 either - until I recently
had to uninstall WinFax 10.0 in connection with a recent upgrade from Norton
Anti-Virus 2005 to Norton Anti-Virus 2006. That installation was without
problem. However when I subsequently re-installed WinFax 10.0 was unable to
access the Address Book from WinFax and received message "Cannot Initialize
MAPI". Symantec told me that the reason for the problem was the WinFax 10.0
was unsuitable for use in my installation of Win XP-SP2 (although I had been
running it successfully for more than a year) and that I would have to
upgrade to WinFax 10.03. I did so (reluctantly) but continued to encounter
the same problem.

Sumantec's support was of no help, they simply had me download some articles
from their "Knowledge Base" and as a result, I wound up doing a series of
uninstalls and re-installs of both OUTLOOK and WinFax 10.03 as well as a fair
amount of Registry massaging.. All to no avail. I still can't access the
Address Book from WinFax and continue to get the error messsage:" . . . Can't
Initialize MAPI". OUTLOOK itself still runs fine as long as I'm not
accessing it from WinFax - except now when I open it I get a message that
"wfoladin.dll is not a valid Office Add-in". OUTLOOK runs okay after I ignore
that message.

I too run OL2003 and winfax 10.03 and had problems accessing OL Contacts.
From my recollection I had to set up the two and not integrate winfax within
OL, i.e. not use winfax within OL.
I also had to change my OL contacts, from a several folder setup to a single
contacts folder.
(Winfax initially accessed the multiply OL contacts folders without
problems)

Obviously I would have preferred full OL integration, but this proved
impossible.
I also seem to recall Winfax acknowledged the problems but did not have a
deffinative cure.

Have so far not found an alternative Fax solution (am using Win2K)

Many thanks, DL, for you quick response to my inquiry. I'm unsure that I
understand your suggestion however. I don't try to use WinFax from within
OL, what I want to do is access OL's addressbook when I use WinFax.

You mention changing your OL contacts, from a several folder setup to a
single contacts folder. Can you explain that a bit more clearly? The whole
setup of my OL address book has me confused. When I "Open" the address book
I get a choice of 2 items: "Contacts" & "Outlook Address Book". But "Outlook
Address Book" has no entries, they're all in "Contacts".

If a change is required, how can I go about doing so? I'm sorry to be
asking so many what are probably very basic questions but I'm afraid that's
the level of my knowledge.

Thanks again for your helpfulness.

I initially had several Folders within/under the main Contacts Folder, so
when I accessed the Contact View, within OL2003, the left pain showed the
'main' Contacts and the other Contacts Folders.

Initially on setting up Winfax I was able to 'import' these folders into
winfax and they were all visible.
From recollection there was an option to integrate winfax within OL (I
believe it added a winfax dll to the OL addins, which is what you are seeing
when you get the OL err msg ' unable to load......')

I had a problem with my OL Profile and had to create a new profile after
which I had to repair Winfax which then 'lost' the OL contacts. I
reorganised my OL contacts into the one main contacts folder, and was able
to import these into winfax.

You might want to check in your OL Contacts, Tools/Address Book to ensure it
is pointed to the Contacts Folder.

I believe your problem revolves around the OL/WinFax integration, as seen by
the OL dll error
