Accessing my c drive folders in Outlook

In Outlook XP and earlier versions I could put a shortcut to "my documents"
or any other folder I liked, I believe by going to something like "other
shortcuts" and opening up the folder list - the list looked just like windows
explorer, so I was able to create a shortcut to any folder or file I wanted.
Now I've updated to Outlook 2003 I don't seem to be able to do that. My
folder list only contains Outlook folders, it no longer resembles Windows
Explorer. Am I missing something? Or can't this be done anymore? I have
folders full of word documents that I would like to be able to access when
I'm in the middle of an email. How do i do this most efficiently?

No, you aren't missing anything. That feature was dropped due to supposed
"lack of use". I liked having it!

You'll need to use the Windows folders from My docs or wherever. You can
still drag and drop from there to Outlook or vice-versa.

I am using outlook 2007, and I am trying (I beleive) to do essentially the
same thing as Selena1812 was questioning - i would like to be able to have
Outlook 2007 'inherit' the folder structure of My Documents on the c drive,
so i do not have to manually create folders in Outlook 2007 (a large number
of folders) to mirror that of My Documents. Said differently, I would like
to harmonize the folder structure among the different Office applications
automatically. (similar in the way that OneNote 2007 essentially inherits
the folder structure of the c drive where a top-level folder on the c drive
'my documents' corresponds to a 'notebook' in OneNote, and 'my documents'
sub-folders='section groups' in OneNote.)

is there a way to acheive this harmonization of folders by having Outlook
2007 look through to the 'my documents' working folder structure? also,
Bill, in your reply, you mentioned being able to drag and drop folders from c
drive to outlook. i've used outlook for forever, but do not think i have
ever done that - learn something new every day. to where in outlook would i
drag a folder to?

thx for any input.

I don't believe so. Outlook folders are not file system objects. They're
simply records in a data base file where the "folder" name is a primary key.

Since Outlook 2003 you cannot add file system shortcuts to the Outlook
interface.
