accessing an IMAP folder causes Outlook to freeze

I use Outlook to read several different email addresses. Some are
POP3 and others are IMAP. The problem I have occurs with one of the
IMAP addresses. Trying to view its contents freezes Outlook and
causes CPU utilization (as shown by the Task Manager) to jump to 100%.

I logged onto the webmail interface for this particular IMAP email
address and there are only 100 unread emails (and of those probably
just 20 undownloaded ones, but I can't tell, for sure, through the
webmail). I've downloaded 2,000 to no ill effect, before, but now
Outlook is choking on, even on liberal estimates, 100?

Given that coworkers are downloading email from the server with no
problems I'm thinking that the server is fine and that it's my Outlook
installation that is having problems. Unfortunately, I'm not really
sure how to go about fixing these problems. Any ideas?
