Accessing Favorites Causes IE to Crash....?

1) Opened IE 6.0 (Windows XP Home)
2) IE 6.0 consistently crashed when accessing Favorites tab; "Crash" meaning
that the application continued working, but a big window opened on top asking
me if I want to send the error report to MS, etc.
3) Same behavior occured consistently when tried to type URL into toolbar
4) Navigating by clicking on links on home page seemed to work ok
5) Tried to upgrade to IE 7.2 to see if it would resolve problem. Couldn't
because of validation issue (am running legal software)
6) Installed Firefox. Firefox worked ok, but the setup crashed when tried
to import Favorites from IE 6.0
6) Booted into safe mode. Installed IE 7.2, no problem w/ validation
7) Booted into normal mode, opened IE 7.2, behavior same as that detailed in
steps 1-4 above.

Seems to me that some data file somewhere must be corrupted?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thks

Additional troubleshooting (which didn't seem to work):

1) Delete Favorites folder
2) Set up empty Favorites folder
3) Restore deleted Favorites folder w/ known, working URL's

No change in the troublesome behavior during each step of the process.

Hi Andrew :-)

All those with IE7 Beta 2 Public Preview installed are being asked to post
their comments, questions and problems regarding IE7 to the following
newsgroup. The folks there specialize in helping you with problems such as
yours and others specific to the Beta 2 program, and the IE7 Beta team is
also assisting in this group and anxious to hear of your experience and
comments. Even if someone here decides to try and assist you, *please*
post your question, comment and/or problems to this newsgroup for the
benefit of the IE7 Beta team and other readers there;
microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general newsgroup.

On the web:
http://www.microsoft.com/communities...plorer.general

In your newsreader:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...plorer.general

Hope this helps.

The issue is actually in IE 6.0....tried to upgrade to 7.2 to resolve the
issue, but that did not work.

This is not a 7.2 specific issue.

When you say *it did not work*, do you mean that you installed IE7 and it
did not resolve the problem, or you were unable to uninstall IE7? It does
make a difference. Once you have updated to IE7, there are some things in
IE6 that may not work properly.

Do a System Restore to a date and time prior to when you installed IE7 to
restore the system to the IE6 state. Then we can work from there.

Correct, once I got IE 7.2 installed, it did not resolve the issue. Symptoms
were the same as experienced w/ IE 6.0.

I suspect either Spyware or Virus. Have PC-Cillin 2005 installed, and have
run Spyware scan w/o result. Have not run an entire Virus scan, as that
seems to trigger an error when it scans my Favorites folder....?

Thanks for the help.

If you have a restore point to a date/time prior to installing the IE7,
restore your system back to that time. Then we can work on the problem once
all the residual IE7 files are fully cleared from your system. If you don't
have a restore point, then do the following:

How to Uninstall IE7 Beta 2 when uninstall files are deleted
http://pinoytech.blogspot.com/2006/0...ta-2-when.html

Hope this helps.
