Accesses to MFT area

I recently took an ATA bus trace of disk activity, to see how often my
application reads and writes the disk. I noticed repeated writing to
LBA #72..87, which I assume is in the MFT area.

Can anyone tell me what these writes are doing? I would like to turn
them off, and avoid the extra disk seeking.
