I just setup a wireless network which works fine to
access the internet over a broadband cable connection
however I can not get access to the w2k pc that the AP is
connected to.

From my Gateway labtop running win xp I can ping the w2k
pc. They are both in the same work group and I have setup
a user account on the w2k with admin rights. I have also
checked that the internal network is a trusted network on
zone alarm pro which is running on the w2k pc and still I
get an error 5 access denied coming from the w2k pc.

It is as though the computer account as opposed to the
user account is being denied but I'm not using domains.

Anybody have any suggestions of other config issues to
check?

I just recently seen this same error on my home network.
Check to see that TCP/IP is bound to file and print
sharing and that the client for Microsoft networks is
loaded as well. You can check both of these in the same
place.

Control panel | Network

Open up the network applet and make sure that in your list
you have Client for Microsoft networks and there is a
check in the box. Also there should be a box that
says "File and Print Sharing" on the same screen. Make
sure that both check boxes are check for " I want to allow
others to access my files" and "I want to allow others to
access my printer"

This is what my problem was. After I enabled file sharing
I was able to access the PC again.

Ooops I should have mentioned that another PC on the
network can access the w2k PC just fine. So both of those
were previously set up.

Man, I hope you get an answer to this Stacy. I've been
trying to swap files between my 2000 machines to my XP
laptop for some time, without success. I use a small
windows workgroup in my home. I can share between the
2000 machines just fine. They just don't like XP!

Make sure the built in ICF firewall [or any other personal firewall] on the XP
machine is disabled assuming you have firewall protection at the cable/dsl

If your wireless network router is providing at least inbound firewall
protection, temporarily disable Zone Alarm on the W2K computer to see if it
helps. Also make sure that you are logging onto the XP computer using the
same exact logon name/password [which is case sensitive] that you have
configured as a user in the W2K machine. It may also help for testing
purposes to try enabling the guest account on the W2K computer and having
the everyone group in the share and ntfs permissions [for at least list and
read] for the share that is trying to be accessed. If you have modified any
default user rights assignments or security options on the W2K computer,
that could also be denying access.--- Steve
