Hi,

just wondering if a ordinary user account under windows xp sp3 can print
using a local attached usb printer...(oki c5510 mfp)

it is working as administrator, but the user can't print (as soon as he
presses a print button, it fails with "cannot print to device..."

any help appreciated.

regards
joerg

What is an ordinary user account?

I have Administrator and Limited accounts - what is the type of user
you are trying to use?

Even Limited accounts should be able to print if things are set up to
do so.

Is that what the message says: "cannot print to device...".

Does the printer show up as online/available in the Printers/Fax
dialog using the afflicted account?

Where are you pressing this print button?

Can the afflicted user print a test page?

You should not need to "elevate a user right".
