When I do the net use j: \\192.168.2.156\Downloads I get the same symtoms where the remote machines locks up. Why would I be able to display the shares, and yet not brose them?

Try that and post back with any error.

When I do NET VIEW \\192.168.2.156 I get a listing of the shared printers and folders on that machine. It's much the same response I get when I use Windows Explorer and enter \\192.168.2.156 in the address bar. My problem comes when I try to double click a shared folder to access it's contents. That's when it locks up. Should I map the resource from the command prompt first? eg. net use J: \\192.168.2.156\share\prg ?

Hello,
I have a Linksys router running Sveasoft's Alchemy V3 and PPTP enabled.
This router is connected to my Windows LAN at home. With my Windows XP
laptop I have been able to connect to my home LAN from work, I have been
authenticated and received an IP, I can ping machines on the remote LAN, and
I can even get remote machines to display network shares if I use their IP
address in Windows Explorer address bar, BUT when I double click a remote
share the laptop freezes up.
e.g. \\192.168.2.156\Share\prg I'm a bit at a loss to figure this out. I
have not forwarded any ports since the router is managing the PPTP. thanks
for any suggestions
