Hi !

I would like to know how can I configure DNS to be able to access server
share with an alias...I don't want to access the server share like
\\hostname\sharename but with an alias.... like \\aliasname\sharename . I
want this to be able, i case of a server failure, to restore the data in
another server and just modify the DNS entry. No script modification will be
necessary because the NET USE command will map the drive to the same
aliase/share.

Hi,

The following article explins how to set this up:

281308 Connecting to SMB Share on a Windows 2000-Based Server May Not Work

Hi Marc !

Thanks for your reply.... This effectively solve my problem (duplicate name
on network error message), but now, I received this message: "Logon Failure:
The target account name is incorrect"... I forgot to specify that I don't
have Win2k... I have WIN2K3...

If i try to access the shared folder with \\servername\sharename, it work
fine, but if I try with \\aliasname\sharename, I receive the message
specified above "Logon failure...."

Any idea ?

Hugo

Are you providing the login name and password on the command line (if not
the same username and pw as current user)?

Hi !

After making some tests.... All work fine... I tried another alias on
another server and all work fine.... Then I tried to delete the previous
alias, create another alias with another name on the same server and all
work fine....

I don't know what's append..... but it works.....

Thanks !
