Greetings

On our network we have a Win2K SP3 file server (Dell PE
4400), our client machines are mostly Win2k Pro running
Office XP. All clients are on switched 100 with the
Server operating at Gigabit. Since the application of MS
Security patch, KB 823980 (Buffer over in RPC interface),
various issues have occurred. Most have been resolved but
one. This issue involves the opening of Word/Excel
documents with the read only attribute set
(tools|options|security tab|Read Only Recommended).

When a client opens one of these docs, if the "No" option
is selected when prompted, the document opens with no
issue. If the "yes" option is selected, the client
machine goes into a state of suspended animation for a
period of 45 to 60 seconds until the document opens.

Any suggestions for resolving this which don't involve
removal of the patch or unchecking the read only attribute
are appreciated.

Thanks

Steve
