access a password protected folder on Win 98 from Win XP Pro

I set up a Windows 98 computer with a shared folder. When I don't put a password on it, I can see & access it from my Win XP Pro and My Win 2K. When I put a password on it, I can see & access it (by entering the password) from my Win 2K computer and I can see it with my Win XP Pro computer - when I try to access it from the Win XP Pro, it asks me for the password, I put it in, and that sign in screen just sits there. It puts my id in as Guest & it's grayed out & can't be changed. It does this on any Win XP Pro pc that I use, not just one. What needs to be set up on the Win XP Pro machines that I'm not doing
