Hi,

I have 2 partitions :
C: NTFS file system
D: FAT32 file system

My Win2k system crashed (unable to boot anymore)
I want to install it again (on drive C) but i want to backup some data
from C before formatting.
I tried to copy it from C to D with Active NTFS Reader for DOS but the
tool froze when i try to read the fat32 partition.
I tried the Active NTFS Reader Version wich come with
"UltimateBootCD", works fine but it cant access to FAT32 partitions.

I'd like to try to access it from another computer, with a bootable cd
wich allow tcp/ip access to files (on NTFS) for example.

Does anyone knows such bootable cd ?
Does anyone knows another tool like Active NTFS Reader ?

Thanks
Germain

There are other NTFS readers out there. I don't recall the name of the
one I've tried but it can write to FAT drives. I'll try to find it.

Maybe the FAT drive has errors that caused the tool to freeze. Try
booting from a Win98 floppy and scandsk the FAT32 drive.

If you have access to Windows XP or 2003 (on a different computer,
perhaps), take a look at Bart Lagerweij's BartPE:

You can even install a CD recording program and save the data directly
to a CD. I have tried it with Nero 6, and it worked perfectly.

I have had good luck with the [free] Knoppix boot CD. It creates a
bootable Linux CD that installs into a RAM Disk and can access both
NTFS and FAT32 as well as provide network functionality. It made me
look like a hero when my daughter's laptop refused to boot to Windows.
