.... Hello all,

I'm having a problem witn my .jpg files. I'm going to try and initially
give as much information as I can on my system hardware and software to try
and expidete a solution, so here goes...

I have a DELL Inspiron E1505, dual Intel processors, running Windows XP
Media Center Edition 2005. I use AVG Anti-virus, have AD-Aware and AD-Watch
installed, and am Using Corel Photo Album 6 (Supplied with my pc from DELL)
as my default for all image type files (bmp, jpeg, jpg, etc).

The problem I am having is I have a folder (DEAN) on my C: drive, and in it
I have assorted .jpg picture files. When I click on any of the .jpg files in
this folder, I'm getting a "No preview available" when Windows tries to open
the file with Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. If I try to open the .jpg file
in Corel Photo Album, I get the message "Access to ______.jpg in <DEAN> was
denied". If I try and copy the .jpg file, I get "Cannot copy <.jpg file
name> Access is denied - Make sure the file is not in use or the disk is not
full".

Now I have other folders under <DEAN> that have pictures in them, and they
work just fine. It seems that when I re-installed Windows XP Media Center
Edition 2005 (Repair option), the pictures I had on my hard drive before the
repair aren't accessible. Other folders with .jpg pictures preview in
Picture and Fax Viewer, or can be opened in Corel Photo Album 6.

I have searched this site, and have tried a few things that I came across in
the posts. I have tried to re-install my Photo Viewer<s> software, and have
tried to re-register and have followed the other suggestions in this post:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/e...xp=&sloc=en-us

I'm ready to lower Microsoft's Flag, burn it and buy a Mac. <g> Ok, all you
smart people out there - PLEASE !!! How can I fix this? I've searched with
"Access Denied .jpg file" on the internet, and on Microsoft's Website, and
can't really find anything that applies to help me with this...

All the ICONS for my .jpg <actually ALL photos> show the Corel Default icon
for my viewer/editor app. What can I do to get these pictures back to a
useable <ie viewable> state? They are photos I really don't want to lose
from Yellowstone National Park's Geyser Basin.

Thank you for any and all help, suggestions, comments, and/or lamblasting
for not backing them up in the first place. I'm really getting frustrated
trying to figgure this one out.

Any additional info you might need, I will be most happy to provide. I have
screen shots I captured, but don't know how to post them here.

====================================
Sounds like the .jpgs are corrupted.

Searching Google for:
'recover corrupted jpegs'
may help you find a solution.

Your photos probably aren't lost or corrupted. I think you have an
access rights problem due to reinstalling XP Media Center. See if this
article at The PC Guru helps you: http://www.the-pc-guru.com/Cannot_ac...er_after_W.php
..

If the worst comes to the worst, Flash Recovery www.tech-pro.net/flash-recovery.html
will recover them. It will bypass the access control by accessing the
raw data on the hard drive. But that's the wrong way to go about it,
really.

"Access denied" when trying to open, copy, or anything else with ".jpg" file or files. This is a apparently a fairly common WIN XP problem. I've run into this several times, and have searched all over for a reasonable way to fix it, without success. But I finally stumbled onto how to fix it. If you're interested, just give me a call - you'll probably have to leave a message and I'll call you back. If you'd like, then you can write it up. Wendell Riseley, 580-701-4993.
