We had a motherboard go out on a Windows XP Home edition PC. This PC had
multiple users each with their own login and password. We needed to retrieve
data from the hard drive so I removed it from the disabled PC and loaded into
one of the external USB drives and attached it to another Windows XP PC. It
came up fine, but when we attempted to open My Documents under any of the
accounts we got a message “Access Denied”. I’m sure this is because each of
these accounts is “Username” and “Password” protected. We have the necessary
user names and passwords, but we are not given any opportunity to enter them.
Can anyone suggest a way we can get around this problem so we can access our
data?

Thanks for any help.

It's an issue of ownership and permissions. From Start | Help and Support
search for each of those to see the info or see these articles.
