My hard drive recently crashed and I installed a new one. I can see the
directories in my hold hard drive and can access most of them, but there is
one directory (of course the most important one) that I can not access. When
I click on it I get the error message "Access Denied. The file may be full or
write protected" Any suggestions on how I can retrieve those files? I have
tried several different fixes from Microsoft tech pages, but none have
worked. Thanks for any suggestions as I am desperate. I am writing a book so
anyone that can get me this info will get an honorable mention LOL!!!

It's a matter of file and folder permissions.

How to disable simplified sharing & set permissions
on a shared folder in Windows XP

A google search for the exact "error" message and the operating system in
question would have returned... many many hits.

READ CAREFULLY. There are some special things to do if you don't use an
administrative level account and/or you have Windows XP Home Edition...
