Hi,

I find that when I attempt to open the "Local Security Policy"
(SecPol.msc), I get the message:

Group Policy Error
You do not have permission to perform this operation.
Access is denied.

I have used all accounts available to me - Local Administrator and Domain
Administrator.

Any idea why I have this error an my domain connected XP workstation?

Thank you for your post.

The issue may occur if the current user account (although it is an
administrator account) does not have access to some necessary files or
registry. Please check to ensure that the current user has full control on
the following folder and does NOT have any Deny item:

C:\Windows\System32\GroupPolicy

Note: I assume your system is installed in C:\Windows folder. If this is
not the case, please adjust it accordingly.

If the above error still persists, please help collect FileMon and RegMon
traces when performing the steps to reproduce the problem. The two tools
(FileMon and RegMon) can be downloaded in:

FileMon for Windows v7.04
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sys...n/Filemon.mspx

RegMon for Windows v7.04
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sys...es/regmon.mspx

You can send the files to me at v-(E-Mail Removed) (please include
"41118286-Access denied to "Local Security Policy"" in the subject line).

It was the security settings on C:\Windows\System32\GroupPolicy.

I have a similar problem. I can't turn on the firewall because "Your network
adminstrator is uisng Group Policy to control these settings." But this is a
stand-alone PC, and when I go to C:\Windows\System32\ there is no Group
Policy. I have XP Hone, version 2002, service pack 2.
