I use a removable HD holder in one of my tower's upper slots for the main HD
and have a 250 gig HD mounted inside as a slave. I have done this for some
time and have a few holders with drives that I change for various reasons
..... such as testing downloaded programs etc without worrying about messing
up my favorite drive. I just ran into a new problem. I put some data on the
slave with my favorite drive, shut down, and then switched the main drive..
When trying to access the data that's on the slave, which shows up normally
in Windows explorer, I get a pop-up error message saying that "Access is
denied". Switch back to favorite drive and no problem. What could be causing
that? Both drives have Win XP pro installed from the same CD and both have
been updated to service pack 2. I always jumper the removable drives as
master and the slave stays set as slave.

Can you boot up with the configuration that gives you access to the slave
drive and look at it's security settings?

Right click the slave drive in Windows Explorer and choose Sharing and
Security.
Look on the Security tab and the various users and associated permissions
they have.

Can you see any obvious errors or more likely an omission?
