Hello,

I have not done anything to my system in the last week or so. I backup all
my files using the backup wizard on a weekly basis. Early this week, i lost
access to all of the files under My documents (Points to a different physical
drive that i had installed some weeks back). I can see ALL of the files,
just cannot access any of them (pdf, doc, etc etc). When i open it says
"access denied".

I tried to restore my system using system restore to monday of this week. It
did not help.
I read up some more and did the take ownership afterwards. When i did
unchecked the use simple file permissions thingie, i observed that there were
no permissions for Creator Owner and my user name also did not have any
permissions. I added permissions, but still no luck. I tried taking
ownership, i tried to pass the ownership to the administrators group. I am
member of every freakin group out there. My user name is the only account on
the system.

At one point, i did efsinfo and it says that there is no recovery agnent.
The certificate thumbprint shown by it is different from my current
thumbprint. Am i hosed? I cannot see what could have changed this. Is virus a
possibility?
cipher /d /a on fails to decrypt the files saying "[ERR]" and "Access is
denied". Strangely it was able to decrpyt the directories.

I have spent days, now becoming a week trying all sorts of things. Still no
luck. I am under extreme pain. Please help!!!!!

I cannot afford to lose my data

A few years ago I had a similar problem with NTFS permissions. Please wait
while I'm trying to reproduce your situation so I can give you the exact
steps to solve your problem.
Just let me know: have you the whole "My Documents" folder encrypted?
